The mission of Colonie Youth Center, Inc. (CYC) is to provide programs and services to enhance the living experience of all people in the greater Capital Region.
CYC was started in 1965, by a group of North Colonie School District students and community leaders focused on teenage recreation. During the 1970s and 1980s, there was a marked increase in the number of single parent families as well as dual-earner households. This shift in the family dynamic created a growing need for before and after-school childcare. To meet the demand, CYC’s childcare program was launched in the early 1980s for students in North and South Colonie Elementary Schools, adding South Colonie Middle Schools in the mid 1980s.
As CYC continued to grow, the board of directors decided the community needed an actual center which sparked the planning and fundraising for the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center. Opened in January of 2007, the Ciccotti Center is a multi-generational recreation and medical fitness facility featuring two full-size gymnasiums, a suspended running track, state-of-the-art fitness center and a modern aquatic complex. CYC proudly serves more than 7000 members of all ages and from all Capital Region cities and towns.
With the recent purchase and renovation of a building in Latham, CYC is back where it all started. The new building houses our administrative office and an additional North Colonie childcare site with room to grow even more!
